ISO 9001:2026 is the new version of the international standard setting out requirements for quality management systems. Like the previous version, it specifies what rules we should develop for our activities. The aim is to make sure that we always deliver products and services of consistently high and predictable quality and that we continually improve them. The foundation of the standard is retained: the process approach, risk-based thinking and the Plan – Do – Check – Act cycle.

The new version places a stronger emphasis on leadership, quality culture and ethical behaviour. Top management is expected not only to be accountable for the system but also to create an environment in which quality is the responsibility of every employee. The requirements for risks and opportunities are set out more clearly. When analysing its context, the organisation must also determine whether climate change is relevant to its activities. Once again, the standard does not give us ready-made solutions. It helps us consider all areas of business management without missing anything – from the provision of resources, through production and service provision, to customer feedback and changes in the environment in which we operate.
